Considerations Before Buying a Budget Monitor
Before purchasing any monitor, it’s important to consider your specific needs and budget. For many people, a budget monitor is a practical choice, offering a balance between affordability and decent performance. However, it’s vital to understand the limitations of budget monitors and what compromises you may have to make. These monitors are typically designed for basic tasks like web browsing, office work, and casual media consumption.
If you’re a hardcore gamer or a professional graphic designer, then a budget monitor might not be the best option. These users will likely require a higher refresh rate, advanced color accuracy, and other features that budget monitors often lack. But for the average user who wants a decent display without breaking the bank, a budget monitor like the Acer SB220Q bi could be a great choice.

Features and Benefits of the Acer SB220Q bi
Visual Experience
One of the main selling points of the Acer SB220Q bi is its visual experience. The 1920 x 1080 resolution delivers crisp and clear visuals for both work and entertainment. The IPS panel offers wide viewing angles, ensuring a consistent picture quality no matter where you’re sitting.
This is important because it allows you to see the screen clearly from different angles, which is crucial for presentations, collaborative work, or just enjoying a movie with friends. The Acer SB220Q bi also features a 100,000,000:1 contrast ratio, which makes black colors appear darker and white colors appear brighter, resulting in a more vibrant and immersive viewing experience.
Design and Connectivity
The Acer SB220Q bi boasts a sleek and modern design that complements any workspace. Its ultra-thin profile and zero bezel design make it an attractive addition to any desk.
The monitor also features multiple inputs, including HDMI and VGA, making it compatible with a wide range of devices. This is a big plus, as it means you can connect your laptop, desktop, game console, or any other device without any hassle. The Acer SB220Q bi also includes a Kensington lock slot, which provides added security for your investment.
Performance
While the Acer SB220Q bi isn’t designed for hardcore gaming, it offers a decent performance for everyday tasks. The 4ms response time ensures minimal lag and ghosting, which is important for tasks like web browsing, word processing, and watching videos. However, if you’re a gamer, you might want to consider a monitor with a faster response time.
Ergonomics
The Acer SB220Q bi features a simple yet sturdy stand that allows you to adjust the tilt of the screen, giving you the best possible viewing angle. While it doesn’t offer height adjustment or swivel features, the tilt functionality is enough for comfortable use.
User Reviews and Experiences
I’ve scoured the internet for user reviews of the Acer SB220Q bi, and I’ve found many positive reviews from satisfied customers. Many users praised the monitor’s sleek design, good picture quality, and affordability.
One user commented, “Just received the product and so far very pleased with my purchase. The base is sleek and simple with solid build quality, made for easy assembly without needing instructions. The screen is actually thinner than I expected making it efficient at saving desk space. It’s adjustable to practically any angle you’d need. I’m using as a second monitor for work so the picture quality is perfect for my needs— I’d imagine you’d need a more advanced device for a good gaming experience though as it could be a touch clearer. Screen glare is minimal, the picture doesn’t do it justice to be honest. I work with direct sunlight behind me and do not have issues viewing the screen.”
Another user noted, “The product arrived 12 hours late, which was not a problem with the manufacturer but more with Amazon. It turned out that it wouldn’t have mattered even if it did show up on time because, and this was my own fault for not reading more into the specs of the monitor, it lacks alternative ports beyond HDMI and outdated VGA. My gaming PC only has one HDMI slot which is currently assigned to a main monitor that I use for my full-screen video gaming, and I decided to purchase a cheap monitor as a secondary monitor for multitasking without needing to constantly alt-tab.Silly me for assuming that the monitor would have a displayport port built into it natively, which I think is the biggest issue with it, because some people may lack an available HDMI port as well as not even have VGA and then they either have to shop elsewhere for a more suitable monitor with other connection options or they have to purchase an adapter like I had to. And, according to Amazon, customers frequently have had to pair this monitor with an adapter, so Acer dropped the ball by refusing to include other ports. I don’t think it’d add too much more to the overall price of the monitor by including a displayport option.Because of having to connect it through to an adapter, which is risky because the GPU and monitor connections are now being transmitted through to two different cords rather than one individual cord, it’s hard to really talk about this monitor when it comes to picture quality. I can’t entirely trust that the colors I am seeing is how it truly would be displayed to you if I could connect it directly to HDMI rather than forcing an adaptation. The colors are definitely not that vivid or bright in comparison to my other monitor, but my other monitor is not really considered budget. For gaming? I’d recommend just paying another $100 or $200 for a monitor designed for actual gaming purposes. This monitor is more advertised as “home office” so that basically just means doing work-from-home or watching YouTube videos. Browsing the internet on it is just fine and a 100hz monitor is more than enough for that usage, but for gaming, unless you have a cheaper gaming PC then 144hz minimum is what people should be aiming for instead. This isn’t really a gaming monitor hence why I’m just using it to write this review, browse the internet, or choose a new song to listen to while I’m utilizing my other monitor.”
